06.12.2013 WANO PEER REVIEW CONDUCTED AT KOZLODUY NPP

The WANO (World Association of Nuclear Operators) Peer Review of 1000 MW Units 5 and 6 finished on 6th December at Kozloduy NPP.

At the last meeting, which finalized the WANO team work at Kozloduy NPP, Janos Toth, team leader, pointed out: “The final conclusion of the team is that there are no problems identified that could jeopardize the nuclear safety of the plant. The management of KNPP and the personnel are committed to reach high level of nuclear safety.”

Along with the other WANO programs the peer review program is one of the basic tools for enhancement of safety and reliability of Nuclear Power Plants around the world by means of common efforts for assessment, comparison with the best achievements and operations improvement.

Within the peer review, which began on 22nd November, a review of the following main areas in the power plant activity was performed: Organization and Administration; Operations; Maintenance; Engineering support, Operating Experience; Radiation Protection; Chemistry; Training and Qualification; Emergency planning and preparedness; Fire safety. The experts performed inspections of Units 5 and 6 equipment state, of personnel work and conducted interviews with Kozloduy NPP employees and managers.

The review team included 24 experts from Hungary, Russia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, South Africa, Ukraine and Argentina led by Janos Toth, Paks NPP Deputy Director for Safety, Hungary. In the last stage of the review Sergiy Vybornov, WANO MC Deputy Director and Vasiliy Aksenov,  Atomenergoremont Plc first Deputy Director and chief engineer joined the WANO team.
